Cloudy and cold

Merry Christmas everyone! What a great year 2002 has been for Family Partners, and we are even more excited as we anticipate 2003!

As you may have noticed if you have visited our Section B page, we have just imported our own ROYAL WELSH CHAMPION, *Wedderlie Mardi Gras!!! Not only is he absolutely outstanding with classic conformation, a superb pedigree and exceptional movement, but to add icing to an already perfect cake, he is PALOMINO! Fresh from the Waxwing Stud in Scotland, he arrived here just before Thanksgiving. You can see photos of him here. He has a lovely disposition and has settled right in as if he has always lived here. He is stalled next to *Holyoake Anastasia, and they are often kissing around the corner of their stall! Surely a sign of things to come!

Mardi will be shown for 2003 by our wonderful friends, Gerald and Jackie Verkuyl of Goldhills Welsh in California. They did such a wonderful job showing Jacobite, that we are absolutely thrilled to have them show and produce Mardi for us. We are looking forward to the show season this year!

I've tallied up the Section B mares that are expecting foals in 2003, and thought I would share the big news with you here. We are accepting reservations on foals, so if you see a cross that you think might suit you, please do not hesitate to call or e-mail.

Foals of 2003

In foal to imported Champion *Telynau Jacobite (Eyarth Rio x Windborne Jonquil by Eyarth Celebration): Due date:
Clanfair Alana (Bristol Houdini x Alvesta Adora Belle) 13.1 hand grey mare, one of our favorites.... this will be Alana's second foal. Her first was absolutely exquisite, so we are expecting great things from this cross! 4-17-03
Zia Carolina (Bristol Valiant x Las Brisas Annie Laurie) 14 hand grey mare. This lovely mare will be having her first foal, and again, this should be an excellent cross. Carolina is extremely athletic with a beautiful Welshy head and beautiful movement. 4-17-03
In foal to Bristol Houdini (Lithgow Houdini x Bristol Little Egypt by Lithgow Gay Grenadier) Due date:
Las Brisas Annie Laurie (Findeln Marlin x GlanNant Rhyme [*Cusop Sheriff x *Coed Coch Prydyddes by Criban Victor]) Annie is a big (14 hand) classic Welsh mare. Tons of bone and old fashioned Welsh type. This foal is very classically bred and should have plenty of bone, substance and SIZE. 4-23-03
Evans Akasha Cream (Bristol Victorio x Velveterra Peaches N Cream by *Rosedale Royal Flare) This mare is a very substantial and very old fashioned mare. She is cream with a big blaze and high stockings, so we are very curious to see what color this cross will produce. She is a lovely, big mover and we expect the same from this foal. 7-15-03
Zia Rhonwen (Las Brisas Chuckles x GlanNant Rhyme [*Cusop Sheriff x *Coed Coch Prydyddes by Criban Victor]) Rhonwen is a gorgeous grey mare, standing a very substantial 13.2 hands. This should be a classic foal with a very classic pedigree. late July/
early August
In foal to Bristol Encore (Pecan Creek's Overture x Bristol Elan [*Coed Coch Ballog x Lithgow Wishnik]) Due date:
Bristol Solara (Bristol Last Tango [GlanNant Tango x Bristol Elan] x Bristol Charlie's Angel [Bristol SunGod x Lithgow Wishnik]) Solara is a big, substantial, heavy boned mare standing 13.2 hands. This foal should be the most classically bred foal we have ever had, being linebred heavily to the great Criban Victor. This mare and foal package is for sale. 3-10-03
Lonetree's Katy O. (Talybont Quicksilver x Tawny Mara [Welara]) Katy is one of our all time favorite ponies, though she is a partbred. This foal will be chestnut and as Katy's other foals have all been, should have a wonderful disposition and lovely conformation and movement. Katy has been an outstanding producer for us, and is 20 years old. We are hoping this will be a filly that we can retain. 4-7-03
Evans Pinkk Floydd (Bristol Victorio x Lane's Cherry Jubilee) Pinky is a gorgeous little mare, with super Welsh type. This cross with Encore should be spectacular, both in looks and pedigree. 6-9-03

We are also expecting one purebred Section D Welsh Cob foal, out of our beautiful mare, Nocturn's Crown Sensation (*Sydenham Nocturne x Gordon's Lady Ann by *Okeden Sensation), and by our lovely Lonetree's Romeo (*Kentchurch Chime x Abbys' Holiday by *Okeden Sensation). This will be the third of this cross, and the previous two fillies have been absolutely FANTASTIC! Put your order in early for this one! Maggie is due 3-27-03.

sunny, but with that fall "nip" in the air

Well, what an excellent show season this has been for *Telynau Jacobite!!

He was shown at the Western Nationals in Paso Robles, CA on Sept. 14, and came home as Junior Champion!!! We are extremely pleased with his success in the show ring. I will have pictures to share soon!

We had a wonderful time in Paso Robles -- lovely ponies, wonderful people and a beautiful facility. We had the pleasure of visiting with many old and new pony friends. Also, my husband, Gary, was the ring steward on two days of the show -- and he had a GREAT time! The judges were Sabra Schiller (US) and Brynle Williams (UK). They were both a great deal of fun, and Gary found the whole experience very educational.

Gary came home so inspired that we took Jack to an Oregon Welsh Pony Society show nearby yesterday -- and Gary showed Jack himself. Jack won his class, won GRAND CHAMPION Section B, then went on to be RESERVE SUPREME CHAMPION of the whole show!!! It was very fun and very exciting! I wasn't able to get any video because of the lighting in the ring, but I did take some pictures with my regular camera, so I will have pictures to share in a few days!

We are eagerly awaiting the arrival of our new imported Section B filly, *Holyoake Anastasia, at the end of this week. This has been a long journey for Annie and we are eager to have her home! You can see photos of her on the Section B page.

We are also very excited about a second filly we have purchased in the UK, who will be coming over in November. Weydown Hermione is out of the superb mare, Carolinas Bewitched and by Carolinas Wildcard. Hermione is a beautiful filly and we are GREATLY looking forward to her arrival! Many thanks to the Weydown Stud for allowing us to purchase this spectacular filly!!

sunny and pleasant

Well, it already feels like fall here! It is definitely in the air and I can see that a few of the ponies are already starting to "fuzz up" just a little bit. I guess that means that the cold and rainy season can't be too far off. It is very dry here this year, so I am actually looking forward to some rain -- for a change!

This past weekend we had the pleasure of attending the Northwest Welsh Classic up in Washington. We had a blast!! *Telynau Jacobite was ably produced and shown by the Verkuyls (Goldhills Welsh) and won his class under judges Wyn Jones (Nerwyn Stud) and Susan Stepney (Gallod Welsh), then went on to win the Junior Championship under both of them as well! We were absolutely thrilled -- but THEN he went on to win Reserve Grand Champion Section B (judge Stepney) behind well known half brother, *Telynau Royal Charter! We were EXTREMELY pleased with Jack and his placings! He is an absolutely MAGNIFICENT pony and we feel honored to own him.

Below are some photos I captured from video I took at the show. The lighting was very poor and it was hard to get anything usable, so please excuse the quality. (And remember, he just turned 2 in July!!)

Jack's first foal's will be arriving in 2003! And we are waiting on pins and needles!! We are now accepting bookings for 2003 breedings, please e-mail for breeding contract.

We will also have some exciting announcements coming soon........watch this page!

hot and extremely smoky

We are having a terrible fire season here in Oregon. It feels as if the whole state is on fire. There are over half a million acres burning at the moment. While we have fires in our region, they are still quite a distance from us. Until today, we had been fortunate and we had not had any smoke. That changed this morning. It is incredibly smoky out there, and even looking just across the front lawns you can see the smoke in the air. I am hoping that we have rains soon. Hopefully it won't be one of those indian summers where it drags on and on.

The ponies are all doing well -- sleeping in the shade of the plum tree in the afternoon, and venturing out into the pasture when it is cool in the early morning and evenings. The foals are growing well, and we are very pleased with them. We nearly have our breeding season wrapped up, with just one stubborn mare left who seems to not be cycling well.

We are headed up to Washington this weekend for a Welsh show, and can't wait to see Jack, as he has been with the Verkuyls all summer. Wish us luck and I'll bring back a full report!

We have made some hard decisions about reducing the number of ponies we have, and so we are offering some exceptional ponies for sale. Please see our sales list and Section B page. Also, contact me if you are looking for something special.

sunny, but not too hot, a few high clouds

My, how time flies when you are having fun -- and we ARE! Seems like I haven't had a chance to update the latest happenings in a while..... Let's see.....

Evans Pinkk Floyd foaled a tiny, but DARLING bay filly on June 11. She was born just a HAIR after midnight. It was one of those times when I was so very glad to be there -- the filly didn't get out of the sack herself, and I got there just in the nick of time.

Pinky's filly is Miss Personality -- a total pocket pet. We are having a great time with her. We have named her Clanfair Miata -- because she is small, sporty, and ADORABLE! She goes everywhere at 100 mph. There doesn't seem to be a trot -- only canter or gallop. She's a doll, and we are having a lot of fun with her. Click here to see more photos, plus pedigree.

On Thursday, June 27, we left to head down to a show in California. Section D Welsh Cob mare, Thornlea Amazing Grace still had another week until her due date -- however, she chose the moment we drove out of the driveway to deliver her filly! My parents came home a few hours after we had left and discovered Grace with too many legs! The filly is by Lonetree's Romeo and we are VERY pleased with her. She is chestnut with a blaze and matching hind socks. She is quite the athletic girl -- she jumps everything she can find in her pasture - logs, ditches, bushes etc. She is going to be quite the performance cob. She is for sale, and you can see more photos and pedigree on her page here.

Our wonderful new Section B stallion, *Telynau Jacobite, has now attended his first two shows and has been shown under four judges. ALL four judges have placed him first in his classes, and just yesterday in Santa Barbara, he was awarded Junior Champion! (It was not offered at the previous show.) We are very proud of him! He has been ably fitted and handled by Gerald & Jackie Verkuyl of Goldhills Welsh. They have done such a WONDERFUL job with him! We are tremendously grateful for their help. You can see photos of Jack being shown at the Delta Breeze show in California on his page.

We are VERY much looking forward to seeing Jack's foals this coming spring! We are expecting some FANTASTIC crosses!

sunny, a few clouds, breezy

Well, Safire finally gave up trying to hide the surprise and had her baby! He is a GORGEOUS, huge, black colt! We are thrilled with him! He has his sire's wonderful neck and is just a really well put together boy. He is a wonderful combination of his parents -- and should be a big boy as well.

Here are photos at 30 hours old. We are still thinking on a name.....

humid and bright, but not really sunny

Clanfair Alana's colt continues to amaze me every day. He is just getting better and better. I am totally thrilled with him. Here are some photos I took yesterday (May 24th).

Clanfair Armani (Bristol Encore x Clanfair Alana)

Solara's colt has turned into such a little tank! "Bob" as he is affectionately known (short for Bristol Of Bristol), is going to be quite a big and fancy fellow. He carries ALL of the Section B bloodlines used at Bristol Pony Farm, so he is a very interesting one to watch grow up. He is the ONLY pony ever produced to carry ALL of "The Bristol Blood". Here are photos from May 24th.

"Bob" - Clanfair ??? (Bristol Houdini x Bristol Solara)

Both of these colts are superb stallion prospects. I am looking for the right homes for both of them.

We are STILL waiting on Safire to foal, though she isn't "technically" due for a few more days. She is expecting her second foal -- but she is so huge that I am finding it somewhat alarming. I don't think I've ever had a mare quite so large. I had the vet out to look at her last week, but he didn't have much to say, except "wait and see".

Breeding season is in full swing and we are sure going to have some EXCITING babies next year. All three stallions are being used and we can't wait to see what they will produce. We are making many new and different crosses! Of course we are still waiting on half of this year's foals, so I guess I should try and keep a lid on it for a while!

We are very happy to announce that we have added 3 new Section B mares to our breeding program! (See photo below.) All three bring large size and substance, and we feel that they are valuable additions.

Left: Zia Rhonwen - 13.2 hands - Las Brisas Chuckles x GlanNant Rhyme (*Cusop Sheriff x *Coed Coch Prydyddes by Criban Victor)
Middle: Zia Carolina - 14 hands - Bristol Valiant x Las Brisas Annie Laurie
Right: Las Brisas Annie Laurie- 14 hands - Findeln Marlin x GlanNant Rhyme (*Cusop Sheriff x *Coed Coch Prydyddes by Criban Victor)
These big, old fashioned girls will be crossed with all of our stallions. We look forward to their first foals in 2003.

Coming up soon on the foaling agenda: Evans Pinkk Floyd is expecting her first foal. The sire is *Llanarth Cavalcade, a wonderful imported stallion. Pinky is getting rather large, and we are very excited. Also due soon is the Section D Cob mare, Thornlea Amazing Grace. Dear Grace must be the sweetest cob in all the world, and we are eager to see the foal that she and Romeo will produce......

Details to come as the babies arrive!

May 5, 2002
grey start, then sun, then cold and cloudy

Well, last night I was just SURE that Alana was going to have her baby. She had all the classic symptoms of a mare in labor: kicking at her stomach, turning back, biting her side, waving her tail all over, stomping around her stall, pawing and looking like she wanted to lay down. We took a few minutes to install the wireless video camera that I'd gotten for Christmas, and set it all up so that I could watch the monitor from my pillow. What a luxury! Of course then I had to keep waking up to crack open an eye to see what she was doing, so I didn't get quite as much rest as I'd hoped! After several hours of being very agitated she finally settled in the front of her stall -- and there she slept all night.

Today was a busy day with various ranch chores getting taken care of. This afternoon we left the house to drop our son off at a friend's house and run to the grocery store. We were gone for an hour and fifteen minutes. When we came back I looked over at the stall and there was Alana standing there with her new baby!!!

So here are the vital statistics: The mare is Clanfair Alana (Bristol Houdini x Alvesta Adora Belle) -- Alana was Houdini's first foal. The proud sire is Bristol Encore, and this is his first foal! It is a colt -- and everything I had hoped for. He is chestnut now -- kind of a dusky shade that I'm sure will turn grey (Alana is a dapple grey). Mother and son are doing well and I will post photos in a few days!

Bristol Safire and Clanfair Alana -heavy in foal- on April 24, 2002

Next to foal: Bristol Safire! (foal by Bristol Encore!)

April 16, 2002
cold, grey, cloudy, windy, cold, grey, cold, grey

The babies certainly are CUTE CUTE CUTE! Solara's colt seems to be growing cuter by the moment! And SO much personality! Here are a few pictures of him. He is a real character! Still unnamed as I was just SURE she was going to have a filly for me!

2002 Section B Welsh Pony colt
Bristol Houdini x Bristol Solara

The next foal in our lineup will be from Clanfair Alana -- one of my favorites. This will be her first foal, and also the first Encore baby. I can hardly wait! She is due around the 1st of May. I'll keep you posted!

March 31, 2002
grey, cloudy, then sunshine (again!)

Whew! THAT was a long night! We were up most all of the night watching Bristol Solara. We knew she had to foal SOON -- to bad we didn't know that we could have gotten a whole night's sleep before the foal arrived! We went in shifts. My mom was up until 3am, then I got up every half hour until 6, then I kicked my husband out for him to start watching. He came and woke me up at 6:45 and said it would be soon!

At 7 am into my arms slid a beautiful chestnut colt! He has a stripe and 3 socks, but looks to turn grey, as he has those tell-tale white hairs above his eyes. As he fluffs and unfolds I will post some pictures. He has a really spectacular pedigree, being by Bristol Houdini (Lithgow Houdini x Bristol Little Egypt by Lithgow Gay Grenadier) and out of Bristol Solara (Bristol Last Tango [GlanNant Tango x Bristol Elan] x Bristol Charlie's Angel [Bristol SunGod x Lithgow Wishnik]). This colt carries ALL of the lines that Bristol Pony Farm used for their Section B program. We are excited to watch him grow into his magnificent pedigree!

March 30, 2002
grey, cloudy start, then glorious sunshine!

It has been an exciting month here at the ranch! We've had several ponies go to their new homes, we had our new imported stallion arrive, and yesterday we had our first foal! Whew!

We welcome to our farm *Telynau Jacobite, or "Jack" as he is known around the farm. He is a sensational pony, and even better than we had hoped he would be. This was our first experience with importing, and it went very smoothly. Of course the folks at the Weydown Stud where we purchased Jack made it even better. They were really a pleasure to do business with.

Jack is chestnut with a blaze and four matching socks. He is the perfect picture of everything we thing a Section B Welsh Pony should be. We are looking forward to bringing him out at the shows this year, shown by our favorite expert, Gerald Verkuyl of Goldhills Welsh. Gerald was kind enough to show Encore to his many wins last season for us. There are a couple of pictures, along with a bit of video of Jack on the Section B page. These were all taken just as we unloaded him off of the trailer -- he hadn't even had a bite to eat or a drink of water. He is a very good boy, and we are really looking forward to his productive future here!

Yesterday morning, my Section D Welsh Cob mare, Nocturn's Crown Sensation AKA Maggie, delighted us with a gorgeous bay filly! This filly is by our Section D Cob stallion, Lonetree's Romeo, and she is a full sister to Clanfair Lark in the Morning, owned by Jenny Senn. This filly is just wonderful so we are thrilled to have her here! PLUS, she is a double cross of the great *Okeden Sensation. As we own her father as our only Cob stallion, we will sadly be offering her for sale. Please e-mail me if this filly interests you.

Also, we've added online videos of most every pony on our sales list. If you can't get the video to play for you, please let me know and I will e-mail it to you. That seems to work better for some people.

The latest on the Foal Watch is that Bristol Solara (in foal to Bristol Houdini) is looking like her time is near! I have her up at the house now at night so I can keep a close eye on her. This will be her first foal -- and I'm hoping she has a filly I can keep to breed to Encore and Jack! But rest assured, I will keep you posted!

January 1, 2002
grey, cold

HAPPY NEW YEAR everyone! Our wish for you is that you have a peaceful and prosperous 2002!

It is cold and grey here in Southern Oregon -- a typical Northwest winter. We have had a lot of rain and even a bit of snow-- a far cry from last winter when it was so mild. The pastures are slick, and the low spots have standing water at the moment. In fact, on my way out to the office this morning, I saw ducks swimming around in one of those water filled spots!

The ponies are furry and are enjoying the latest batch of Eastern Oregon alfalfa. Many of the mares are very obviously pregnant now and I am VERY much looking forward to spring! I just LOVE sleek ponies, green grass, and new babies!

We have a VERY exciting announcement coming soon.....stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks!
