We filled up our trailer with ponies, and headed to scorching hot Sacramento, California for two back to back gold rated Welsh shows held over five days at the Brookside Equestrian Center in Elk Grove, August 31 through September 4th.

Our show string consisted of:
Our imported Royal Welsh Champion & US National Champion stallion, *Wedderlie Mardi Gras
Our imported UK Champion & Medal winner, and US National High Score Winner, *Holyoake Anastasia
Mardi and Anastasia's 7 week old daughter, Clanfair All About Me
and our new guy, the Junior Champion Ledinjadon El Eigle

*Wedderlie Mardi Gras made us proud!
He was named Supreme Champion at BOTH shows, and was chosen as Best In Show at the second show
(it was not offered for the first one). In spite of the very hot, long days, he showed beautifully each day.
He also had wonderful goes in the Hunter ring ridden by Lara Brown, winning Reserve Hunter Champion, only his second time ever over a course of jumps! With Gary in the saddle, he was Reserve division champion for the Long Stirrup division also!
In his typical Mardi "I'll-do-anything-you-ask" fashion, he was brave and wonderful in his classes - and he got all of his changes perfectly!![]()

*Holyoake Anastasia was not in "prime" show condition, as nursing her big 7 week filly was taking a lot out of her!
But we had not shown her for a while, and we really wanted to bring her filly out to her first show, so off we went.....
The judges loved her!!!
Under FOUR judges.....
she won FOUR blue ribbons and was named Champion Section B mare under ALL FOUR judges!
The Section B mare division was HUGE and extremely competitive! We were so proud of her!![]()

Mardi and Annie's 7 week old filly, Clanfair All About Me, made her show debut as the youngest pony at the show.
She had never been away from home, let alone seen the wash rack or clippers, but she was a total trooper and took it all in stride.
She showed beautifully the first day and we were so excited when she was pinned 1st and 2nd in a huge class of much older fillies.
By the second day, she was feeling the effects of the extreme heat and did not trot out as well, and thus placed 3rd under both judges --
which we were very pleased with, considering the size and quality of the class.
She had also gotten a fat lip on the second day, somehow scraping the side of her lip/nose overnight in her stall.
You can see her fat lip in the face shot below!![]()
Yes, a bit of a bum high growth spurt!![]()

Ledinjadon El Eigle was such a good guy at the show. The kids got him ready, and he was so calm and sweet about everything.
He showed well on the first day, earning two first place ribbons, but by the second day, the heat had gotten to him, and he did not show quite as well, thus earning a 2nd and 3rd place in a big, competitive class.![]()

We had never attended two shows arranged back to back before. While it was extremely exhausting, in part due to the extremely hot temperatures, it was also a lot of fun, as the Welsh Pony & Cob Association of California always puts on great shows!
We always love to show with the folks in California!
This was the last show of the season for us in 2006, but we look forward to the 2007 season!
